Week 3...

Roll Up Roll Up!

A great week of learning once again at Hickling Infant School! We are focusing on journeys that vehicles take using a book called 'On the Road' by Susan Stegall.

Reception and Miss Arnold did a road traffic survey on the main street in Hickling. We saw almost every type of vehicle apart from a bus! We then continued our journey in search of a tractor, thanks to Thomas' great directions and listening ears!

Year 1 have been learning about prepositions in English and Year 2 have been learning about extended noun phrases!

In maths Year 1's focus has been counting in multiples of 2's, 5's and 10's and Year 2's has been partitioning 2 digit and 3 digit numbers.

The main highlight of our week came today when we went to Catfield School for a federation day and to visit the circus!!!

We boarded the coach and set off on our own journey. We spotted the Big Top through the trees and the shrieks possibly were heard back in Hickling! Its safe to say we were EXCITED!

We arrived safely and entered the Big Top for the best 'assembly' ever...

 A MINI CIRCUS SHOW!!

WE

We enjoyed a picnic lunch with the other federation children and then got to try some circus skills for ourselves!

We feel that some of us may be ready to join the circus, see what you think?!

Week 2...

What a busy week at School!

First we had the arrival of Avocado Baby! We had many great questions for baby Summer and her mum Kate. Luckily Kate could answer them all and we found out lots of new information. Baby Summer smiled and laughed and made the children laugh too! When she started to cry we knew it was time for her to go and eat some more avocados!

The next day we had our Roald Dahl 100th anniversary celebration! Everyone came dressed as characters from the story and enjoyed a morning of activities inspired by the books. The children decorated biscuits with chocolate in Willy Wonkas Chocolate Factory, they enjoyed books in the library with Matilda and created Enormous Crocodiles with Miss Turner!

Check out the photo below for our wonderful costumes!

After that we moved onto our new story for the week 'Baby Brains'. We listened to the story, made story maps to help us remember the story and acted out the story in groups. Its safe to say we have some budding film directors and actors in our school!

Finally we rounded up the week with a great celebration assembly where we entertained people with our weather song. See below for photos of the certificate winners and WOW moments.

Welcome Back!

We have had a great start to the Autumn Term at Hickling!
The children have welcomed Miss Arnold in with a big smile and helped her to settle in just fine.

This week we have started our learning about journeys, focusing on our life journey starting as a baby. We have been reading a story called Avocado Baby by the author John Burningham. We have tasted avocados along with other fruits and found out that most children in school don't like them!!

We even helped an avocado company who were having problems with their sales by promoting the benefits of eating them. Word must have spread that if there's a problem, we will help solve it!

Miss Wones and Miss Arnold had the pleasure of doing their first celebration assembly today and it was great to see so many families come to share in our achievements.
